Children have unique orthopedic needs.

The growing nature of each child’s bones, joints, and muscles places him or her at an increased risk for orthopedic injuries. At Orange County Orthopedic Group, we offer thorough care for patients of every age. Pediatric orthopedic conditions can surface:

  • At birth
  • Shortly after birth
  • Later, due to injury or poor development

Conditions

Some of the most common conditions that we see in our office include scoliosis, club foot, gait abnormalities, spina bifida, juvenile arthritis, bone infections, and cerebral palsy. When dealing with any type of childhood orthopedic condition, we take a comprehensive approach to make sure every child receives the best possible treatment and symptom management.

There are also some issues that can appear to be an orthopedic problem, but are really just things your child will grow out of with some practice, like toe walking and flat feet. We are happy to look over these things as well to determine if there are any underlying concerns.

Injuries

Increased activity and play time means children are susceptible to sports injuries and overuse injuries that can affect growth plates, muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments, and joints. If your child participates in activities like horseback riding, baseball, football, basketball, tennis, skating, and many more, there is an increased risk for an injury. Treatments for sports injuries often include bracing, rest, elevation, medications, icing, and sometimes surgery.
